Vanessa Diffenbaugh

“Enchanting, ennobling, and powerfully engaging.”
      -Booklist (* starred review)

The Language of Flowers is the highly anticipated debut novel from Vanessa Diffenbaugh who found inspiration in her own life as the catalyst for this haunting story of how the Victorian language of flowers is used to communicate when the pain of words is too much to bear. Through the eyes of a young girl recently ‘released’ from the foster-care system whose only connection to the world is through flowers and their meaning, The Language of Flowers is a remarkable achievement of originality, with an exceptional narrative and a truly exceptional heroine who is like a flower herself, a forget-me-not. Vanessa lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

As part of this event, Dominique Vasseur, Director of Curatorial Services, and Curator of European Art for the Columbus Museum of Art will give a brief presentation on the history of flowers in art, as well as highlight some of the great flower paintings from the museum’s own collection.
