Tour Guides
Thurber House offers a unique volunteer opportunity for those who love history and have a knack for relating a good story. Our Tour Guides learn all about James Thurber’s life, his writing, his cartoons, his crazy family, as well as the ghostly history of the house at 77 Jefferson Ave. Tour Guides usually serve one Sunday per month from 1 – 4 pm where they greet visitors, offer a guided tour of Thurber House and assist customers making purchases in the bookstore. If you work well with children, we also need tour guides who are available during the week to give tours for school groups. Thurber House Tour Guides gather three times a year to hear a Thurber story, share experiences (ghostly or otherwise) and put the schedule together.
