The Thurber Birthday Gala spotlights the previous year's winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor. The 2011 winner was David Rakoff for his wonderful book, Half Empty. Sadly, David passed away this summer.

The 2012 Birthday Gala will continue its tradition of celebrating humor with a special appearance by Robert Mankoff, acclaimed cartoon editor for The New Yorker, founder of The Cartoon Bank, editor of numerous cartoon collections, a cartoonist himself, and a leading commentor on the role of humor in American life.
