The Paris Wife

The Paris Wife is a beautifully evocative story told in the voice of Ernest Hemingway’s first wife, Hadley.  Think A Moveable Feast from the wife’s point of view and that is the voice of the novel as it explores the Paris of the Lost Generation. But the hard-drinking, fast paced, Bohemian lifestyle of the Lost Generation does not celebrate the traditional notions of family and monogamy that Hadley cherishes. As she struggles with jealousy and self-doubt, and Ernest wrestles with his burgeoning writing career, they must confront a deception that could prove the undoing of one of the great romances in literary history.

Paula McLain is the author of two collections of poetry, and an acclaimed memoir, Like Family: Growing Up in Other Peoples Houses. She lives in Cleveland with her family.
