New Voices

Thurber House is proud to continue this very special Summer Picnic highlighting emerging authors in various genres. All three authors have been published, and all three are Ohio connected. Each author will read from his/her works individually.

Amanda Flower: In her debut novel, Maid of Murder, Amanda Flower introduces a quirky librarian heroine, India Hayes, who must hunt down the person who murdered her childhood friend and framed her brother for the crime. It was nominated for a 2010 Agatha Award for Best First Novel. A native of Akron, Flower is an academic librarian for a small college in Ohio’s Western Reserve region.

Ellen Waddell: Waddell, a Columbus resident, is a former Thurber House Young docent, participated in Thurber House’s Young Writers’ Studio, and is currently a senior at New Albany High School. Her senior project was a book of essays entitled, She Said, Looking Forward, about a summer of watching people and finding beauty everywhere.

Lee Kravitz:  Kravitz, a native of Cleveland, chronicles an entire year he spent attending to the most important things in his life and reconnecting with those dear to him in his first book, Unfinished Business. He was a founding editor of React, an interactive news magazine for teenagers, and was editorial director of Scholastic Inc. Most recently he was editor-in-chief of Parade magazine. He lives in New York with his family.

Thurber House is pleased to announce as part of the New Voices picnic  a special string quartet performance by students from ProMusica’s Student Advisory Board, who are also participants in the Musicians in the Schools program.
