Picnic under the evening summer sun as writers with Ohio connections read and discuss their most recent books. Past authors include Jennifer Crusie, Connie Schultz, Lee Martin, Joe Blundo, and Kevin Boyle, among many others. Each author gives a 45-minute reading, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period and a book signing.
Reading and dinner tickets are $30; Reading-only tickets are $15 for adults, or $5 for children twelve and under. Individual dinner tickets must be ordered by 4:00 p.m. on the Monday before each Picnic. Reading-only tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. All tickets are available online.
A typical Literary Picnic evening follows this schedule:
5:30 p.m. - Our Young Docents (pre-teen and teenage tour guides) offer guided tours of Thurber House and the exhibit at Thurber Center.
5:30 - 6:50 p.m. - Boxed dinners will be handed out to those who purchased dinner tickets. If you would like to order dinner from us, please make your reservation by 4:00 p.m. on the Monday before each picnic.
7:00 p.m. - The reading begins. Thurber House remains open after the reading for touring, book buying, and signing.
Please bring your own lawn chairs or blankets. You are also welcome to bring alcoholic beverages. All picnics are held at Thurber House, 77 Jefferson Ave. In case of rain, join us at the Columbus Museum of Art, 480 E. Broad Street.
Please help Thurber House support the Mid-Ohio Food Bank this picnic season!
For the 2014 Literary Picnic Season, Thurber House will once again be collecting canned and boxed goods at each event to support the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
Please consider bringing any canned and boxed goods you can spare when you attend any of our picnics this summer.
