Ghost Writing Workshops

A Thurber House Ghost“Instantly the steps began again...The light still shone palely down the stairs; we saw nothing coming; we only heard the footsteps.” –James Thurber from “The Night the Ghost Got In”

That’s just a snippet of James Thurber’s story about the night he had a ghostly experience! Do you like ghost stories? Do you write about things that go bump in the night? If you said yes and are in 4th through 6th grade, join us for our Ghost Writing Workshops at one of your local libraries. Fun and wackiness will ensue as you work as a group to collaborate on a ghost story with the guidance from our teachers Kathy Matthews and Valerie Cumming.  You’ll learn how Thurber created his story and how you can incorporate suspense, ghosts and humor all into one tale!

Ghost Writing Worshops will be held at one of your local libraries, and a final party for the participants and family members will be held in October at the Thurber Center. More information about these workshops will be available in the fall.

If you’d like to be added to our email or mailing list, please contact Amanda Lutze at alutze@thurberhouse.org. If you have any questions about camp, please contact Meg Brown at megbrown@thurberhouse.org.

The Ghost Writing Workshops are a collaboration of Thurber House, Upper Arlington Library and the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

Instructors: Kathy Matthews and Valerie Cumming are both freelance writers who have taught various classes at our Summer Writing Camp, Writing Wizards classes and our Fable Writing Workshops.
